Kauno Žalgiris secures qualification

Differdange 03 nevertheless got off to an ideal start, with Daniel Garrido Oliveira opening the scoring early in the 2nd minute. But the complexion of the match quickly shifted, in a first half rich in disciplinary trouble: the Luxembourgers saw BOCUM then VITINHA booked in quick succession, between two tactical timeouts.

Kauno Žalgiris took advantage of this turbulent period to gain the upper hand. Anderson Tangara equalised with a 10-metre shot converted in the 16th minute, before Brayan Stiven Silva Rivera and then Francisco Gustavo Da Costa turned the situation around within the space of two minutes. At half-time, the Lithuanians were leading 3-1.

The second act confirmed the visitors' dominance. Francisco Gustavo Da Costa scored a brace from the 22nd minute, then Brayan Stiven Silva Rivera also got himself a second goal in the 25th, bringing the score to 5 goals to 1 for Kauno Žalgiris. Differdange 03 responded through Ruben Daniel Reis Lemos, but Anderson Tangara answered immediately for the Lithuanians.

The Luxembourgers did not give up for all that: BETO and then PORFÝRIO revived the suspense late in the match, bringing the score back to 4-6. Not enough, however, to worry Kauno Žalgiris, who sealed the result with a final goal from Merunas Stalmokas in the 39th minute, setting the final score at 4-7.

This win allows Kauno Žalgiris to confirm its place as leader of Group 6 with 7 points and its qualification for the round of 16, ahead of Unisport FC (6 pts). FC Differdange 03, despite its fighting spirit, remains third with 3 points, while Doukas SAC brings up the rear.
